Sudden Pressure Relays are used in power transformers insulated in oil and operate when a sudden elevation of the transformer internal pressure occurs. When a sudden elevation of the transformer internal pressure occurs, the relay turns on an electrical contact for transformer shutdown. The relay does not operate under slow pressure changes, such those that occur under normal operation due to the transformer temperature change, and the Pressure Relief Valve remains in control for the transformer shutdown if the internal pressure rises up to critical levels.
