Buchholz Gas Relay

Buchholz Gas Relays are used in power transformers insulated in oil which have an expansion tank. Their function is to collect the gases generated inside the transformer and detect the abnormal oil flow between the core and the expansion tank. The Relay is installed in the pipeline between the core tank and the expansion tank, and all gas generated shall be stored in the relay for further analysis to be carried out by the user. If this gas accumulation reaches the setting defined by the Regulation, an electrical alarm contact should be activated. When an oil flow occurs from the core towards the expansion tank and its speed reaches the setting in the relay, the relay should activate a shutdown electrical contact, preventing damages to occur in the transformer.
